Academic Manager – St. Andrew’s College Language Schools
Location:
Glasgow, Paisley, Edinburgh, Ayr, Stirling, London, Chatham (Kent), Canterbury, Bognor Regis (West Sussex), Brighton, Colchester, Gloucester, Keele and Dublin.
Total Salary: £743.03 – £847.25 per week (including holiday pay). Accommodation included. Duration:
Summer 2026.
Reports to:
St. Andrew’s College Language Schools’ Senior Management Team.
Work Hours:
42‑hour week (usually 5/6 days, 6‑day campuses may include Saturday).
- Educated to degree level (Level
6) or higher - Cambridge CELTA/Trinity CERT TESOL, or a QTS award if it is primary level, or secondary level English or Foreign Languages.
- At least 3 years’ full‑time EFL experience.
- Awareness of the responsibilities of working with students under the age of 18.
- Computer literate and able to handle large amounts of data.
- Able to adapt quickly to change.
- Cambridge DELTA or Trinity College London, Dip TESOL or PGCE TEFL/TESOL or a taught postgraduate course (MA equivalent) in TEFL/TESOL, including at least 6 hours of supervised teaching practice (TEFLQ Status).
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
- Over three years’ full‑time EFL experience.
- Proven competence in academic leadership, people management, and administration.
- Smart personal appearance.
The Academic Manager is responsible for the implementation and administration of all aspects of the academic programme, including the management of the teaching team and their performance. This is a management position with a demanding workload.
The Role Of An Academic Manager Incorporates The Following- Ensuring the safety and welfare of all students at all times.
- Collaborating with the on‑campus management team to deliver a high‑quality, collegiate programme, integrating lessons and activities.
- Overall management of the academic programme and teaching team, ensuring the highest standard possible.
- Read and are fully familiar with the staff handbook and all welfare, safeguarding and health & safety policies.
- Inducted to at least level 2 safeguarding.
- Implement and monitor all health & safety policies and the Emergency Action Plan, First Aid and Fire Safety regulations.
- Maintain records of welfare, safeguarding and safety problems, solutions and outcomes in accordance with guidelines.
- Use Google Drive to record, organise and manage the academic programme, including classing of students, allocation of classes and classrooms, creation of class lists, registers and communication with teachers and Senior Management Team.
- Use the Master Spreadsheet to record and organise student data and information, and to plan and process intakes.
- Coordinate with Centre Manager regarding location, format and logistics.
- Provide clear guidance to staff on delivering placement tests.
- Organise professional monitoring, efficient marking and temporary teaching classes during marking periods.
- Collaborate with Group leaders to clarify the testing process and how results inform class selection.
- Create class lists and registers of no more than 18 students, considering age, level, mix and continuity.
- Ensure students know their class placement promptly.
- Liaise with Group leaders to approve class lists and maintain accurate daily records.
- Monitor online attendance and lesson logs, and update teaching signage.
- Organise, advertise and lead graduation ceremonies.
- Verify names before printing, distribute certificates, and return students’ books.
- Complete documentation and maintain student records.
- Manage risk assessment forms for out‑of‑class lessons.
- Teach when necessary (absence, sickness, low student numbers).
- Represent the college positively in all client, staff and host centre interactions.
- Lead Academic Staff Induction Day, usually one or two days before student arrival, fully inducting new staff.
