Job Purpose
To deliver teaching and assessment in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS), particularly on courses related to bio‑business, entrepreneurship, clinical trials or science communication. To teach and to actively contribute to the knowledge, understanding and skills of students in the College of MVLS. Work within a team to ensure academic delivery and contribute to general academic administrative duties of taught programmes.
Liaise with academic colleagues within MVLS and University‑wide to develop a vibrant portfolio and provide excellent training and student experience.
- Work with clusters of programmes to contribute to the redevelop‑ment and implementation of new academic content.
- Contribute to course creation, development and delivery, including tutoring support.
- Support the development of creative and innovative teaching approaches in line with the University’s Quality Enhancement Strategy.
- Engage in scholarship to support teaching and student support activities and apply up‑to‑date research to all teaching.
- Maintain and develop knowledge in the subject area through liaison with the schools in the college.
- Keep abreast of technological advances and continually update knowledge and skills.
- Provide effective, timely feedback to students and build consistent structures across programmes.
- Support colleagues in developing teaching and programmes.
- Work with other University areas to provide consistent teaching, assessment and feedback.
- Participate in recruitment, induction and orientation activities.
- Undertake other teaching related duties as requested.
- Undertake other related duties, including management and leadership activities.
- Participate in performance and development reviews.
- Contribute to the implementation of the College Education Strategy.
- A first degree in a relevant subject area to MVLS.
- Specialist knowledge of bio‑business or entrepreneurship or a related area.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant subject area to MVLS.
- A PhD in a relevant subject area to MVLS or equivalent teaching experience.
- Knowledge of university academic policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of e‑learning, teaching methodology, learning design and pedagogy.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational, presentation and communication skills.
- Enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning.
- Ability to use initiative and exercise independent judgement.
- Proven time, project and people management skills.
- Ability to work proactively, multi‑task and show responsibility.
- Accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
- Ability to teach flexibly across disciplinary boundaries.
- Experience of delivering postgraduate teaching in disciplines related to MVLS programmes.
- Experience of delivering postgraduate teaching and assessment in MVLS programmes.
- Experience of coordinating a teaching programme.
- Experience of developing teaching content.
- Record of accomplishment in published research and/or teaching.
- Experience of working in virtual learning environments.
- Experience of teaching in an international institution or with international students.
Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064–£46,049 per annum. Full time and fixed term up to 3 years.
