Job Overview

Total Salary: £704.55 – £771.94 (including holiday pay). Accommodation not included. Duration:
Summer 2026.
Reports to the on‑campus Director of Studies / Academic Manager and Senior Teacher(s), and the St. Andrew’s College Language Schools’ Senior Management Team.
Essential Requirements- Undergraduate (Level
6) Degree + Cambridge CELTA/Trinity CERT TESOL, or a QTS award if it is primary level, or secondary level English or Foreign Languages. - Awareness of the responsibilities of working with students under 18.
- Knowledge of the use of English and the linguistic systems underlying it.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken).
- Flexibility, in both teaching and non‑teaching duties, and the ability to work well with other colleagues.
- Ability to work with IT systems, Google Drive, to maintain records and access resources.
- Smart and tidy appearance.
- Experience in both the teaching and welfare of students under 18.
- Experience of working with multicultural and multilingual groups.
- Experience of preparing students for English language exams.
- Work a 42‑hour week, with up to six days including Saturday as required.
- Foster a safe and positive atmosphere for both students and colleagues.
- Show initiative, take responsibility and set a good example for students inside and outside the classroom.
- Ensure corridor safety, chaperone classes to venues, and integrate new students into classes.
- Try new approaches in lessons and utilise classroom resources.
- Use student books and materials deemed essential by the college.
- Collaborate with teaching colleagues to share experience and knowledge.
- Incorporate strategies for independent learning.
- Deliver student‑centred lessons emphasising oral communication.
- Set clear learning aims and help students understand what they are learning and why.
- Ensure students record their learning achievements in their books.
- Follow company guidelines on board work.
- Be responsible for the resources provided and return them at the end of your contract.
- Declare criminal convictions and provide eligibility to work in the UK.
- Provide an email address and telephone number of three referees (including a character reference).
- Attend a paid induction before the start of the contract with the academic management team. Payment: £11.50 per hour upon completion and return of all company resources.
- Read and understand the staff handbook and be fully conversant with welfare and protection policies.
- Implement and monitor Health & Safety policies.
- Identify First Aid personnel and follow related policies.
- Implement the Emergency Action Plan.
- Follow Fire Safety regulations.
- Know the relevant contacts for concerns and have their details.
Use Google Drive to complete registers, lesson logs and deliver lessons.
Placement tests- Provide clear guidance to students on how to take the placement test.
- Monitor placement tests professionally.
- Mark placement tests efficiently.
- Complete holistic speaking tests of students as directed.
- Teach temporary testing and project classes while placement test results are collated.
- Take the online class register within the first 5–10 minutes of class.
- Report absent/late students or those not matching the register within ten minutes.
- Document any concerns on the online class register.
- Report high‑concern items to the academic management team or corridor supervisor.
- Write up an online Lesson Log after each class.
- Complete Risk Assessment Forms for 'Lessons Outside the Classroom'.
- Complete any other required paperwork.
- Attend daily and weekly meetings as arranged.
- Participate in weekly Teacher Development / Continuing Professional Development sessions.
- Complete a teaching self‑assessment/needs analysis at the beginning and end of your contract.
