The Role

An enthusiastic and organised Receptionist is required for the Teaching & Learning Centre which is based within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus. The facility provides a learning and teaching environment for University of Glasgow medical and nursing students as well as providing postgraduate training facilities for medical staff, ensuring the next generation of doctors, nurses, scientists, clinical academics and support staff are trained to the highest standards.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and NHSGGC is unable to provide candidates or employees with a CoS.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

This is a permanent, part‑time post of 14.8 hours per week, located at the Teaching and Learning Centre, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The shift pattern is Monday and Tuesday, 7.45 am – 3.40 pm.

Key Responsibilities
  • The post holder will welcome all users to the centre and provide directions to relevant venues as required. They will deal with any queries that the users may have.
  • The post holder must be able to prioritise and work in a logical, methodical and diligent manner with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Use the booking system to correctly book ad hoc room requests using judgement and occasionally problem‑solving skills.
  • Assist organisers in the co‑ordination and booking of equipment, catering and large events, including conferences.
  • Display details of centre events that day and communicate any reasons for delays or changed availability in a courteous manner to all users.
  • Monitor and order stationery and consumable stock to ensure adequate resources are available in the communal areas to allow the centre to function and that deliveries are uplifted by the relevant department.
  • Present a positive image of the Teaching and Learning Centre to all users and promote it as a centre of excellence for educational and conference services.
  • Deal with incoming/outgoing communication (e.g. email and shared mailbox, telephones from all NHS staff groups, University of Glasgow medical faculty, staff and students) by directing and prioritising as appropriate to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery within the centre.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
  • Good general education to include National 5 or equivalent in English.
  • Good keyboard skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with a wide range of NHS and University of Glasgow staff, all learners including students, visitors and members of the public.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional, all‑round attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and to work in a logical, methodical and diligent manner.
  • Capability to cope in a stressful, pressurised environment and remain calm under pressure.
