The Opportunity:

SRUC is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Wildlife & Conservation Management team at our Barony Campus. This is an exciting opportunity for an ecologist or conservation professional who is passionate about both their field and developing the next generation of practitioners. The successful candidate will bring experience in habitat management, ecological surveying, and practical conservation, alongside a genuine enthusiasm for supporting students in building these essential skills.

Applicants should have a solid understanding of current issues in wildlife and conservation management. Practical skills in ecology, data analysis, GIS/remote sensing, and conservation management are desirable. Experience in education, research, or upland conservation management would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of a vibrant programme of growth for SRUC’s wildlife & conservation education and training capability in the Natural Capital Section, based out of the Barony.
  • Providing guidance and support to enable learners from all sections of the community to be included in education and achieve their potential as successful learners and future citizens;
  • Planning and preparing an engaging, inclusive learning experience to progress learning, working both independently and cooperatively with others where relevant
  • Ensuring that the education and learning programmes meet as a minimum the relevant Quality Assurance requirements, including the compilation and submission of internal and external data and reports as required;
  • Working with the Programme Team Leader to help identify opportunities to further develop the academic portfolio for national and international recruitment;
  • Contributing, where relevant, to the delivery of wider wildlife and environmental management related training and education activities, including assisting with the development of a good working relationship with colleagues that have relevant interests across the section for Natural Capital.

The post-holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Programme Team Leader, Section Lead or Deputy Heads. The post holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of SRUC regulations and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold an MSc and an associated undergraduate degree in a conservation, wildlife, countryside management, or environmental management discipline.
