Job Purpose
To assist the University of Glasgow (UofG) Widening Participation (WP) team in taking forward the suite of WP Schools’ Programmes, primarily FOCUS West (Focus on College and University Study in the West of Scotland) Top-Up Programme and Reach (Access to the High Demand Professions) Programme but also on the WP Summer Programmes which would include UofG Summer School;
UofG Taster Weeks and UofG Sutton Trust Summer School.
To tutor pupils predominantly online and to a lesser extent on the UofG campus and in schools: to raise awareness and aspiration of Higher Education (HE) as an option; on all aspects of the HE application process; in the key skills required for successful first year study at a Higher Education Institution.
Main Duties and Responsibilities1. To prepare and deliver the University of Glasgow WP Schools’ Programmes online and in-school sessions with fellow tutors, using the materials and following guidelines provided in the tutor resources, and to attend all allocated sessions as agreed at the commencement of the programmes.
2. To act as a tutor for groups of pupils during sessions held on the UofG campus for each WP Programme.
3. To maintain regular contact with fellow tutors and WP core staff and to inform WP staff of any problems encountered during online, in school or on campus sessions.
4. To maintain accurate registers as required on a by-session basis and maintain an accurate record of engagement of all school pupils for all sessions.
5. To mark and provide feedback on pupils’ work and compile and collate student profiles to enable dissemination of results to admissions officers in HEIs.
6. To attend and complete all appropriate UofG and Schools’ Programmes training (online or in person).
7. To keep a record of hours worked and submit monthly pay claims to the WP office.
8. To proactively suggest improvements to the programme through established feedback mechanisms, in terms of content, materials, training and user experience.
9. Conduct other duties as required to support the WP team in successfully widening participation to HE and the UofG.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Degree, or equivalent professional qualification in relevant academic area.
A2 Sound understanding of the learning skills required for successful study in HE.
Desirable:
B1 Current knowledge of the Scottish secondary school system.
B2 Current knowledge of the Scottish HE and FE systems.
B3 Degree, or equivalent professional qualification in relevant academic area within the last 10 years.
B4 Currently working towards / studying a postgraduate qualification.
B5 Full, clean driving license.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills.

C3 Demonstrable ability to communicate and lead school level students in a friendly, student focussed manner.
C4 Demonstrate adaptability and contribution to change.

Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of working with young people, e.g., schools, personal tutor, youth work/groups, community work, sports coaching.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of working with learners in HEI's or F.E.
F2 Experience of working with young people in small and large group settings.
F3 Experience of working in widening access within an HEI or F.E. College.
F4 Experience of teaching / tutoring online.
Terms & ConditionsSalary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum, pro-rated to the number of hours assigned to, and worked by, you.
These posts are offered on a part‑time (fractional) basis with a minimum of 40 hours offered over the duration of contract: hours will vary depending on your availability. It is fixed term until July 2027.
Please note this is not a full‑time post.
