Job Purpose

Effectively and efficiently to undertake a range of duties associated with the teaching of full time and part time Pre-Honours students in English Language and Linguistics and associated administration as requested by the Head of School/Subject in order to contribute to the College/School/Subject Area objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To deliver Pre-Honours tutorials/seminars, which will include the supervision of group work and the leading of class discussion.
  • To ensure content and methods of delivery meet learning objectives.
  • To participate in the marking of written assessments, and providing timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
  • To undertake limited administrative duties such as recording attendance.
  • To engage in pedagogical training, organised by the School and the Subject.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential
  • A1 Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) relevant to the teaching area or have expertise in a relevant field, together with an understanding of the principles of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • A2 A postgraduate qualification or equivalent, or current enrolment as a postgraduate research student
  • A3 Appropriate level of knowledge and expertise in English Language/Linguistics or a related subject
Skills Essential
  • C1 Excellent communications and language skills both oral and written.
  • C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
  • C3 Time/project/ management skills as appropriate.
  • C4 Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • C5 Ability to work with little supervision.
  • C6 Self-motivation.
  • C7 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
Experience Essential
  • E1 Participation in small group learning
  • E2 Successful completion of previous year's APR, where appropriate
Desirable
  • F1 Successful completion of first year of postgraduate research degree
  • F2 Previous teaching experience [though not essential as appropriate training provided].
