Job Description

As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, makes up one of the five services within Glasgow City Council and is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across the authority’s nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.

We are currently recruiting three new positions for Quality Improvement Manager’s posts. Two posts will have a Primary sector focus, and one post will have a Secondary sector focus.

Working directly to the relevant Head of Service, you will lead a team to support the development and delivery of service excellence across our schools and drive forward improvements to achieve Glasgow’s aims and objectives. While each role will work across a broad range of strategic priorities, applicants should demonstrate substantial leadership experience and expertise relevant to their chosen sector, with particular strategic focus on learning and teaching.

As a member of our Education Directorate, you will have the opportunity to contribute to service objectives and work collaboratively to improve the outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow.

You will provide strategic leadership, advice, and guidance to Directorate and Headteachers that will support performance improvements in the quality of education for our children and young people.

Alongside driving educational improvement, you will provide strategic leadership on workforce and organisational performance matters, supporting Headteachers and senior leaders to manage complex challenges, promote positive workplace cultures and deliver sustainable improvement. You will be confident working with a wide range of stakeholders and capable of providing professional advice, support and challenge in a dynamic and demanding environment.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of quality improvement in an education setting and have a proven track record of leading and managing at a senior level.

To succeed in this role you must bring leadership, energy, and vision, as well as strong stakeholder management. You will be a highly skilled communicator who can develop and maintain effective working relationships, resolve complex situations, and adopt a solution focused approach. You will have the ability to inspire others, be forward thinking and thrive in a challenging and demanding environment.

Crucially, you must have a passion for ensuring the children and young people of Glasgow receive a consistently high quality education which, will provide them with the necessary skills for learning, life, and work.

You should be educated to, at least, degree level in a relevant teaching discipline.

Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Eligibility for GTCS Registration is essential. Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 this post is politically restricted.

These posts are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
