north lanarkshire council is seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable workshop technician to provide specialist technical support across three of our additional support needs (asn) schools. This rewarding peripatetic role offers the opportunity to work within inclusive learning environments where your knowledge, creativity and technical expertise will have a direct impact on the educational experiences of young people.

working across buchanan high school, firpark secondary school and glencryan school, you will support practical learning activities by maintaining workshop facilities, preparing materials and equipment, and ensuring that staff and pupils have access to safe, well-organised resources. Your role will include the care and maintenance of hand tools and machinery, preparation of materials for teaching activities, stock control and procurement processes, production of teaching aids, and providing technical assistance to teaching staff.

Health and safety will be central to all aspects of your work.

we are looking for candidates who hold an svq level 3, hnc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and who have significant experience working with machinery, hand tools and workshop environments. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to work independently, manage priorities across multiple sites and build positive relationships with colleagues and young people. Relevant qualifications or experience in areas such as computing, electronics or electrical disciplines is desirable.

most importantly, you will bring a proactive and flexible approach, a commitment to high standards, and a genuine desire to support learners with additional support needs to engage in meaningful, practical learning experiences.

this is an exciting opportunity to join our technical field service team and become a dedicated part of three of our school communities. You will play a key role in helping young people develop confidence, independence, and valuable vocational skills for the future.

support is provided through a peripatetic service delivery model and as such the successful candidate should hold a current full driving licence and the ability to travel across the local authority is essential.

successful applicants will be required to become members of the protecting vulnerable groups (pvg) scheme prior to commencing employment.

a driving licence is required for this role.

* for all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip. You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
