The School of Humanities in the College of Arts and Humanities seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy of Psychology and Cognitive Science.
Applications are invited from candidates with an appropriate record of academic achievement in Philosophy, with a proven research and teaching specialism in Philosophy of Psychology and Cognitive Science. We especially welcome applicants working at the intersection of Philosophy of Mind and Psychology with experience conducting empirical research, who have an appetite for academic leadership, knowledge of university systems, and experience of working as part of a team within a university environment.
Candidates should have a Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in Philosophy, with a substantial publication profile and significant experience teaching and supervising within the subject area in higher education.
Philosophy has strong links with the School of Psychology and Neuroscience, both in the activities of its Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience and in the development and delivery of two postgraduate programmes in Philosophy of Mind and Psychology. Candidates for the post should contribute to protecting and strengthening these links by undertaking research at the intersection of Philosophy and Psychology, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, and teaching on the Philosophy of Mind and Psychology postgraduate programmes.
JobPurpose
To undertake research of international excellence and contribute to teaching and assessment on agreed undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Philosophy and to undertake administration and service activities in line with the School and College's strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience in a similar or related role.
- A2 Sufficient breadth and/or depth of knowledge in the discipline of Philosophy, particularly Philosophy of Psychology and Cognitive Science, and of teaching methods and techniques to work broadly across the subject area.
- A3 Up-to-date knowledge and specialist understanding in the field of Philosophy, particularly in Philosophy of Psychology and Cognitive Science, with an ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students to inspire learning and to provide pastoral care to students within the subject area.
