At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
ResponsibilitiesAs an Associate Fire Engineer, you’ll typically be working on a variety of projects at once – from a university in Scotland to a high‑rise residential tower in London, with plenty of international work. All with the same goal of enabling innovative architectural design without compromising the fire safety of the building.
You’ll be running through design information, liaising with other WSP disciplines such as Facades, Acoustics and Structures, presenting designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and helping to inform the design team about what changes could be made to increase the safety of the building.
Naturally, there is a lot to learn and you are likely to be guided through a variation of software packages, fire standards, team briefings and client updates from the start. We’re a nice bunch and we regularly get together for social events.
In addition to the day‑to‑day role, we will assist the successful candidate toward his/her professional registration via IFE and other professional organisations.
QualificationsAt WSP, we have multiple opportunities for our fire engineers to grow via a bespoke programme designed to provide you with both professional skills and specialist technical development opportunities. The programme is supported by our senior leadership team and is tailored to give you the support, guidance and development opportunities you need to work towards chartered status or equivalent professional qualifications.
The structured programme includes but is not limited to training in:
- Technical report writing
- Team specific technical skills
- Project management (introduction and advanced)
- Influential communications
- Commercial concepts
- Collaborative team challenge

You will have a BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
Must have extensive experience within the fire engineering consulting industry.
