Role summary

We’re seeking an experienced Associate Director (Building Surveying) to join our UK team in Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham or Manchester. This role delivers a diverse mix of building surveying services across commercial, industrial and public‑sector assets for clients spanning transport infrastructure, aviation, commercial development, healthcare, education, residential, industrial and mixed‑use environments. You will join a collaborative workplace with a strong client base and a varied project portfolio, working alongside highly respected specialists while shaping the growth of our regional building surveying offering.

We’re looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) who can bring depth, insight and leadership to multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead major work streams such as large‑scale condition surveys and fire‑safety remediation programmes.
  • Prepare and review specifications, tender documentation and design information, and produce high‑quality technical reports—from condition surveys and options appraisals to heritage statements, due‑diligence outputs and RIBA Stage 2/3 contributions.
  • Apply a sound understanding of current UK construction requirements and health and safety legislation to strengthen technical integrity and support informed decision‑making across assets and sectors.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior colleagues, including APC supervision, counsellor or assessor roles, to help early‑career professionals progress in training and build confidence and capability.
  • Build strong client relationships with professional, timely and proactive communication, and influence and grow work streams to expand presence across Scottish regions and wider UK.
  • Contribute to proposals, fees and client presentations that demonstrate the value and expertise of the team, and support business development and long‑term partnerships.
Qualifications
  • Chartered status with MRICS accreditation (or MRIC/FRIC as applicable).
  • Private practice or consultancy experience with knowledge of health and safety, party wall, building regulations/planning and the Building Safety Act, PAS 9980.
  • Experience surveying the condition of existing buildings, identifying and analysing defects, and proposing repair solutions; inspecting and advising on design, construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of buildings and sites.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance at SC level would be advantageous.
  • Role is hybrid with three days in the office.
