The Civil Engineer will be working as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team. The primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes.
Supporting nuclear facilities & the delivery of services across client project sites.
The team consists of Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical and Piping Engineers who are responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation, ensuring Design Intent, Critical Safety Factors and Safety and Operational Requirements are met and are consistent with current good practice and legislative/regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Authoring, assessing, maintaining, and managing design substantiation documents and design changes.
- Presenting substantiations to nuclear safety committees.
- Developing EIMT schedules, operating procedures, and safety documentation (including Periodic Safety Reviews).
- Providing technical guidance to stakeholders and producing ITA/IPR scopes. Applying engineering expertise to design, operate, and maintain systems in high‑risk environments.
- Producing technical justifications for design modifications.
- Reviewing contractor submissions, calculations, and technical documents.
- At least 5 years’ experience assessing reinforced concrete and steel structures under static and dynamic loading.
- Ability to produce clear, robust technical justifications for design changes.
- Strong civil/structural engineering knowledge applied to existing and emerging technologies.
- Experience supporting multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience).
- For non‑nuclear background candidates, a Nuclear introductory course would be required to be undertaken within 6 months of joining.
- Experience with in the nuclear industry.
- Understanding of full lifecycle engineering processes in high‑risk environments.
- Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice, and application of relevant nuclear‑specific codes and standards.
- Familiarity with safety case development and hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
- Chartered Engineer status.
