Role Summary
GE Vernova applies the science and systems of power conversion to accelerate the electric transformation of the world's energy infrastructure. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will work in the equipment design team within our systems engineering organization, based in Rugby or Glasgow, and will be responsible for developing next‑generation naval products and designing cutting‑edge technology for future naval platforms. Responsibilities span the entire product development cycle from concept to manufacturing and involve close collaboration with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and power systems teams to deliver on customer requirements.

- Develop mechanical designs for power electronics, electrical distribution, and integrated test equipment, balancing performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Create 3‑D models and 2‑D drawings in PTC Creo and manage parts and Bills of Materials in Siemens Teamcenter PLM.
- Perform engineering analyses using hand calculations and software tools, and develop test plans to support prototype testing and design validation.
- Act as the technical point of contact for mechanical engineering topics across project work, collaborating with product and project managers to deliver customer requirements on time and on budget.
- Drive engineering quality and efficiency by applying engineering tools and processes to optimize throughput and embed DFMA principles throughout the design process.
Experienced mechanical design engineer with a track record in product development for industrial or electrical equipment, who takes ownership of technical decisions and brings rigor to every stage of the design process.
Required Qualifications- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering with solid technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheet metal design, DFMA, and material selection.
- Track record in product development, ideally in the industrial or electrical equipment sectors.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and use them to inform mechanical designs.
- Proficiency in PTC Creo or similar 3‑D CAD software for part and assembly modeling and 2‑D drawing production.
- UK nationality and eligibility to obtain UK SC (Security Check) clearance.
- Design of medium‑voltage (MV) and low‑voltage (LV) switch gear and packaging of power electronics equipment.
- Experience using Siemens Teamcenter PLM software for BoM creation and management.
- Expertise in stress, thermal, and fluid flow analyses using hand calculations and FEA tools such as ANSYS and Fluent.
