Réalis is seeking a dynamic and motivated Senior Hydrogeologist specialising in contaminated land and brownfield development to join our award‑winning Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice. Based in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award‑winning group of contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects across transportation, energy, buildings and places, and water markets.

Your role
  • Provide technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff, supporting their technical development.
  • Provide technical input and delivery of contaminated land projects and hydrogeological aspects of multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Review and provide technical overview of complex numerical models for groundwater.
  • Project manage and deliver a wide variety of projects, including managing finances and programme delivery.
  • Organise and manage site work.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub‑contractors and other internal disciplines.
  • Support senior management in developing new business and clients to win work and preparation of commercial offers.
  • Prepare health and safety plans for site investigations and manage health and safety.
  • Develop own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on training and development needs.
About You
  • First degree in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. Geology, Geography, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Environmental Science).
  • MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or related subject, preferred.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Geological Society, ICE, IES or CIWEM); if not chartered we would expect you to become chartered within 6 to 12 months after joining.
  • Substantial demonstrable experience as an environmental consultant within consultancy, industry, regulatory or academic fields with a track record in delivering work, client management and stakeholder liaison.
  • Demonstrable understanding of UK hydrogeology and the environmental and regulatory framework of UK water management.
  • Demonstrable experience of groundwater modelling packages such as P20, Con Sim, Land Sim, RAM, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SEEP/W.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding including ability to complete tenders.
  • Digital innovator: experience of handling large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Skills in GIS, computer programming, engineering geology / hydrogeology would be an advantage.
  • Full UK driving licence.
