Title: Laser Development Engineer
Join our R&D team as a Laser Development Engineer, working on the design, development and optimisation of advanced ultrafast and CW laser systems. This hands‑on role spans the full product lifecycle—from feasibility and prototyping to detailed design, verification and transfer to manufacturing. You’ll work closely with optical, mechanical, electronics and control‑systems specialists to turn early concepts into robust, manufacturable products. Key Responsibilities- Conduct feasibility studies for ultrashort‑pulse laser designs
- Build, test and qualify prototype laser systems
- Troubleshoot and optimise laser performance
- Produce clear technical reports and presentations
- Support manufacturing teams with technical expertise
- Contribute to system‑level laser design within a multidisciplinary team
- Collaborate with local and global laser specialists
- Define specifications and source components
- PhD or equivalent experience in solid‑state or fibre‑laser technology, or experience in laser development/manufacturing
- Strong understanding of optics and principles of laser operation in CW and pulses regimes
- Hands‑on experience building or optimising breadboard or production laser systems
- Proficiency with optical and electrical test equipment
- General understanding of electronics and control systems
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Knowledge of ultrashort‑pulse physics, mode‑locking, nonlinear optics and dispersion
- Python programming for data analysis or modelling
- Familiarity with control systems and circuit‑level debugging
- Experience with optical modelling tools (e.g., Zemax) or custom modelling
- Strong problem‑solving and prioritisation skills
- Ability to deliver results independently and within teams
- Clear, confident communication
- Professionalism and a commitment to high‑quality engineering
