Senior Consultant – Infrastructure Planning
WSP, a leading engineering and professional services firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Consultant to support town planning and consenting inputs on major and nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities include supporting and taking responsibility for aspects of town planning and consenting on major infrastructure projects (e.g., DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs). The role involves providing technical advice, coordinating the preparation and submission of consent applications, supporting negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders, engaging with multidisciplinary teams, supervising others, and contributing to project delivery.
- Support and take responsibility for aspects of the town planning or consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs etc).
- Providing technical advice to clients and support managing their consenting requirements, demonstrating awareness of client's expectations and needs.
- Support co‑ordinating the preparation and submission of consent applications which may include applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts, the Planning Act 2008 or other regimes.
- Supporting negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Engage with teams across a variety of disciplines, supporting and supervising others in their work/project delivery roles.
- Understands project and team roles and actively supports and contributes to achievement, building positive relationships within the team.
- Proactively engages with developing own knowledge and skills to build ability and team's internal knowledge base.
- Awareness of project finances and some project management experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
- Degree level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
- Member of (or eligible for) the RTPI.
Qualifications and experience:
- Demonstrable experience of working within multi‑disciplinary teams to secure consent and approvals for major or nationally significant infrastructure projects via the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Planning Act 2008.
- Experience in securing consents for major projects under the Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, Transport and Works Act Order or the Electricity Act.
