Position Overview

We are delighted to offer an experienced Environmental Manager to play a pivotal role within our long‑term framework. This dynamic leadership position will drive environmental excellence across our operations, champion best practice, ensure compliance, and inspire teams to deliver sustainable outcomes, working closely with clients to shape innovative environmental solutions.

Key Accountabilities Strategy
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Volker Wessels UK Group’s sustainability targets.
  • Ensure all successful tenders are correctly set up to meet environmental legal requirements and comply with all legislation before work starts on site.
  • Assure that environmental issues are considered during design and throughout the life of the project.
  • Be part of the senior management team at Volker Stevin Faslane and provide environmental and sustainability guidance and direction.
Environmental Assurance
  • Give guidance, advice and direction to the business and site teams to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company/client requirements throughout the construction process.
  • Contribute to the delivery of company and client sustainability targets, including carbon reduction, waste minimization, and resource efficiency.
  • Monitor legislation and industry changes, particularly Scottish and MoD requirements, to keep Volker Stevin policies and procedures up to date.
Communication and Coordination
  • Represent the business at Group level and ensure Volker Stevin is appropriately represented in working groups.
  • Attend project meetings at a divisional level representing the environmental and sustainability function.
  • Liaise with clients and regulators.
  • Communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels in person or in writing.
Line Management
  • Support live projects and contracts at the Naval Base with audits, advice and training, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
  • May include line management of an environmental assistant/administrator or other environmental staff.
About You
  • Excellent working knowledge of environmental legislation and its application to the construction industry from design to completion.
  • Subject‑matter expert capable of advising on construction environmental aspects and impacts such as waste, water management, permits and licences.
  • Experience of strategic management of capital works programmes in a live operational, regulated environment.
  • Chartered member of the ISEF or equivalent and hold a recognised environmental qualification (degree or similar).
  • Previous experience and understanding of BREEAM Infrastructure, CL:

    AIRE DoW CoP, PAS
    2080 and ISO
    14001 is desirable.
  • Minimum of fifteen years’ relevant post‑qualification experience.
  • Full driving licence required as sites are not easily accessed by public transport.
  • Candidates must be British National; security clearance is a pre‑requisite for any offer.
