Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Glasgow

£55,000 - £70,000

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a well‑established multidisciplinary consultancy in Glasgow. This role will see you leading geotechnical projects across the minerals and quarrying sector, providing technical expertise on a range of challenging developments throughout the UK.

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will manage projects from feasibility through to detailed design, undertaking geotechnical assessments, slope stability analysis, quarry design, earthworks and foundation assessments. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, liaise directly with clients and regulators, and play a key role in developing long‑term client relationships within the minerals industry.

Responsibilities
  • Lead geotechnical projects within the minerals and quarrying sector.
  • Conduct quarry slope stability assessments and design.
  • Perform geotechnical interpretation and reporting.
  • Plan and supervise ground investigations.
  • Carry out earthworks and rock engineering assessments.
  • Client management and business development.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically robust solutions.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Significant consultancy experience within geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of quarrying, mining or minerals projects.
  • Experience producing detailed geotechnical design reports.
  • Chartered status (CEng or equivalent), or working towards it.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.
