We’re looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing team in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness
. This is an opportunity to take a leading role within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, providing technical direction across complex projects while helping to grow our Electrical Engineering capability. You’ll work alongside recognised industry specialists, influence engineering solutions and support the delivery of critical infrastructure that makes a lasting difference.
THE ROLE
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, taking responsibility for high-quality EICA design delivery from concept through to construction support.
You will:
- Lead electrical and EICA design solutions across infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, including treatment works, pumping stations and associated assets.
- Provide technical governance, design assurance and engineering guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and review key deliverables including Single Line Diagrams, Block Cable Diagrams, Network Infrastructure Diagrams, technical specifications and control philosophies.
- Work closely with project managers, clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Support the growth of the discipline through mentoring engineers, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to bids and framework opportunities.
- Champion innovation, best practice and continuous improvement across Electrical Engineering.
Your technical leadership will directly support the delivery of essential water infrastructure across Scotland, helping clients improve resilience, enhance environmental performance and meet ambitious sustainability targets. The solutions you help deliver will contribute to reliable water services for communities while supporting the transition towards a more sustainable future.
Beyond project delivery, you’ll play a key role in strengthening our engineering capability by developing future talent, supporting technical excellence and helping shape the continued growth of Stantec’s Water business across Scotland.
ABOUT YOU Essential- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or working towards professional registration.
- Significant experience delivering electrical or EICA design within water, utilities, infrastructure or related industries.
- Proven experience leading technical delivery across complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering standards, design processes and technical governance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
- Experience working within the UK water sector.
- Experience leading HAZOPs, design reviews and technical workshops.
- Knowledge of DSEAR requirements and hazardous area design.
- Experience supporting bids, framework delivery and client relationships.
