This role will initially be based in Bradford but were moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so youll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (2/3 office a week Bradford/Leeds) Work type:

The Major Projects team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

Join Yorkshire Water's Water Infrastructure Major Projects team and play a key role in delivering major projects that will help secure future water resources for millions of customers. As the team's Permit-to-Work specialist, you'll ensure high-risk activities are planned and carried out safely by reviewing risk assessments and method statements, identifying hazards, implementing appropriate controls, and managing the permit-to-work process. Working closely with project teams, contractors and operational colleagues, you'll help shape the safe delivery of complex projects from development through to execution, making a real impact on Yorkshire Water's future infrastructure investment programme.

Where you fit in:
As our Control of Work Officer, you will:
Promote and lead a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture across all activities. Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and Life Saving Rules. Challenge unsafe behaviours and intervene where there is a risk to people, assets or operations. Manage and deliver permits within programme timescales to support successful project delivery. Take ownership of Control of Work processes, ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed and managed.

Produce and manage Site Access Authorisations, permits and handovers in consultation with site operators and stakeholders. Conduct site inductions and communicate site-specific hazards, restrictions and safety requirements. Provide technical and operational support in the management of incidents, hazards and near misses. Ensure all incidents, hazards and safety concerns are reported and escalated appropriately. Support safe delivery of high-risk and hazardous activities through effective planning, coordination and supervision.

Verify that all personnel are appropriately trained, competent and authorised for the tasks they undertake. Coach, mentor and support new Permit Writers through their training and sign-off process. Ensure all equipment is fit for purpose, maintained, tested and used by trained personnel. Build strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to support safe and efficient operations. Liaise with contractors and escalate performance or compliance concerns where necessary.

Maintain accurate communication across teams, including standby and escalation arrangements. Develop and maintain strong technical knowledge of water assets and their safe operation. Use corporate safety systems and SAP-based systems effectively and accurately. Proactively manage workload and priorities to support programme delivery objectives.…
