About Us

A passion for the environment. It's in our nature.

At Five Rivers, protecting and restoring the natural world isn't a sideline to our work, it's the reason we exist. For over 25 years, we've been a leading environmental management and environmental consultancy, working across every stage of a project's life: from monitoring and survey, design and consultancy, habitat creation, ecological mitigation and on-the-ground civil engineering delivery. Our concept to completion approach means we don't just design solutions, we see them through from first site visit to long-term aftercare.

Our work spans river restoration, wetland creation, biodiversity net gain, natural flood management and species protection, alongside the civil engineering expertise needed to bring nature-based solutions to life. Whether it's reconnecting a degraded river channel, creating new habitat for wildlife or engineering flood resilience for a community, every project is a chance to leave nature better than we found it.

The Environment & Water Team

Our Environment & Water Team delivers a wide range of monitoring, survey and compliance services that help protect and aquatic and terrestrial environments across the UK.

Working with clients across the public and private sectors, the team delivers projects including continuous flow and hydrological monitoring, Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) investigations, fish rescues and translocations, aquatic monitoring, analysis and reporting. Every project plays a vital role in improving environmental outcomes, supporting biodiversity and helping our clients meet their regulatory obligations.

The Role

We're looking for an organised, commercially aware Assistant Project Manager to help deliver projects that protect rivers, improve water quality and support a healthier environment.

You’ll help deliver a busy portfolio of aquatic monitoring, survey and compliance work, sitting at the centre of ensuring projects are planned, resourced and delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Working alongside Project Managers and technical specialists, you'll manage and coordinate your own portfolio of projects while supporting the wider programme. You'll be responsible for planning and mobilisation, coordinating people, equipment and resources, managing project costs and ensuring Safety, Quality, Time and Commercial (SQTC) principles are maintained throughout project delivery.

This is a management and coordination role rather than a field survey position. While an understanding of environmental or aquatic projects is helpful, we're looking for someone who enjoys organising people, managing programmes and driving successful project delivery. As your experience grows, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of increasingly complex projects and develop your career within environmental project management.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing your own portfolio of environmental consultancy projects from mobilisation through to completion.
  • Planning projects and coordinating resources to ensure successful delivery.
  • Monitoring project budgets, costs and commercial performance.
  • Managing project risks, changes and programme updates.
  • Coordinating staff, equipment and subcontractors to ensure projects are mobilisation-ready.
  • Maintaining project schedules and supporting wider programme planning.
  • Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients and suppliers.
  • Supporting Project Managers with cost tracking, purchase orders and project administration.
  • Assisting with tender submissions, bid coordination and compliance documentation.
  • Managing equipment registers, servicing schedules and calibration records.
  • Ensuring biosecurity procedures and environmental best practice are followed across project delivery.

About You

You enjoy organising people, projects and processes, and take pride in delivering work to a high standard. You're commercially aware, proactive and thrive in a collaborative environment where no two days are the same.

Most importantly, you want your work to contribute towards protecting and restoring the natural environment.
