Job Title:

Engineering Insights Analyst

Location:

Glasgow Head Office (Hybrid: 4 office | 1 WFH)

Salary:
Competitive (DOE)

To bring hands-on engineering and facilities management expertise into the Data Insights team, providing the technical judgement that turns maintenance data into credible insight for our clients' asset replacement and capital expenditure programmes. Drawing on a practical background in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, or building services, the Engineering Insights Analyst will investigate maintenance activity across the estate, recognising from an engineer's perspective where patterns of failure, repeat visits, high spend, or poor asset performance point to underlying root cause.

The role is investigative first and foremost: challenging how assets are being maintained, questioning whether specifications, maintenance regimes, and repair-versus-replace decisions stand up to technical scrutiny, and quantifying the cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities that follow. Supported by the team's data and reporting capability, the post holder will translate engineering findings into clear, well-evidenced recommendations and present them with authority to senior client stakeholders.

PRINCIPAL

ACCOUNTABILITIES :

- Apply hands-on engineering and facilities management knowledge to investigate current maintenance provisions from all angles, identifying cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities and recommending specification changes or enhancements grounded in technical reality.

- Investigate spend and performance outliers by asset type, site, and discipline, using engineering judgement to establish root cause — distinguishing genuine asset deterioration from issues of specification, maintenance regime, workmanship, or usage — across both City internal resource and contractor delivery.

- Act as a technical voice within the Data Insights team, sense-checking analysis, challenging assumptions, and ensuring reported findings reflect how assets actually behave and fail in the field.

- Work with discipline subject matter experts and other internal stakeholders to strengthen the technical evidence base for capital replacement submissions.

- Advise on and support the client's asset specifications, providing engineering-led analysis to inform purchasing and repair-versus-replace decisions.

- Use the corporate Life Cycle Costing model, informed by practical knowledge of asset lifespans and failure modes, to shape investment priorities for asset replacement programmes.

- Use and help develop business intelligence and reporting tools — including Excel-based analysis and Power BI dashboards — to communicate findings, with full training and support provided to build on existing data skills.

- Produce reports, summaries, and presentation material in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for internal and external audiences.

- Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the Data Insights team.

- Represent the company professionally at all times and build effective working relationships with key City and client colleagues.

- Undertake training as required and keep personal skills current with technical developments.

- Comply with the company Health and Safety Policy at all times.

- Work with City and client colleagues to ensure agreed standards of quality are maintained at all times.

- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

- Deliver engineering-led cost savings through the technical investigation and modelling of client maintenance data.

- Deliver robust, evidential data to support annual business plan submissions.

- Deliver analysis and recommendations that improve asset availability and reduce maintenance costs.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- A strong technical background in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, or building services, ideally gained hands-on in maintenance delivery or engineering management.

- Sound understanding of asset failure modes, maintenance regimes, and repair-versus-replace economics.

- Experience of fast-paced retail environments, with an understanding of retailer needs in relation to FM and the importance of data.

- Strong Excel skills and confidence…
