Job Description
This is a senior, site-based role overseeing the survey and verification of complex mechanical and machinery systems on naval vessels under construction in Glasgow. It offers the opportunity to remain technically hands-on while benefiting from a stable working environment. The role will be based within a major UK shipyard, and you will play a key role in the classification and compliance of naval newbuild projects, ensuring machinery installations meet class and statutory requirements.

Responsibilities will include:

Leading and conducting surveys of marine machinery systems during new construction

Witnessing testing, commissioning, and installation activities

Verifying compliance with classification rules and naval standards

Acting as a technical point of contact for shipyard and project stakeholders

Producing detailed reports and certification documentation

Supporting and mentoring more junior surveyors where required

About You:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a classification society

Strong experience in ship new construction projects

In-depth knowledge of marine machinery systems

Experience working on naval or defence-related projects (highly desirable)
Strong stakeholder engagement and reporting skills This role would particularly suit someone currently within a classification society or with past experience, who is seeking long-term stability, structured hours, and involvement in high-profile naval programmes.

Please note:

The role requires eligibility for UK security clearance.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be eligible to obtain clearance.

The role is primarily site-based in Glasgow. If you are a senior classification professional with strong new construction experience and are open to a confidential discussion, please apply.
