Role overviewThe Senior Environmental Advisor will play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance for construction projects within Infrastructure Services, initially supporting the Great Grid Upgrade projects on a secondment basis. The role involves a deep understanding of environmental planning requirements, active liaison with site teams and technical specialists, and providing expert advice to ensure all construction activities meet regulatory and company environmental standards.
Upon completion of the secondment, the postholder will be redeployed to other suitable projects within the Infrastructure Services portfolio.
- Provide expert guidance on construction environmental compliance and planning requirements.
- Liaise closely with site teams, planners, environmental specialists, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to environmental legislation and planning conditions.
- Monitor environmental performance and compliance on-site, identifying risks and recommending mitigation measures.
- Support the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade projects during an initial secondment period, ensuring robust environmental governance.
- Prepare and review environmental reports, documentation, and compliance records.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between multidisciplinary teams on environmental matters.
- Support continuous improvement in environmental practices and contribute to sustainability goals within Infrastructure Services.
- Following the secondment, transition to other projects across the Infrastructure Services portfolio where environmental expertise is required.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental science, environmental management, or a related discipline.
- Membership or accreditation with a recognised environmental professional body desirable (e.g., IEMA).
- Significant experience working on environmental compliance in construction or infrastructure environments.
- Knowledge of planning legislation and environmental permitting processes essential.
- Extensive experience in environmental advisory roles within construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of environmental planning, regulatory frameworks, and compliance standards relevant to construction projects.
- Proven ability to engage and influence site teams, planners, and external specialists.
- Demonstrable experience in monitoring, reporting, and managing environmental risks on large infrastructure projects.
- Willingness and ability to undertake site visits across the UK and Ireland as required.
