Position: Senior Engineer [Asbestos]

At Network Rail, we're the publicly owned operator of Britain's rail infrastructure.

We're trusted custodians of one of our nation's most critical public assets:
Scotland's Railway.

We keep Scotland moving - connecting people and places, supporting businesses, public services and communities - driving economic, social and environmental success.

Our work spans almost 20% of the UK network and between 2024 and 2029, we're investing £4.8 billion to enhance our stations and routes, supporting new passenger and freight rolling stock.

Working together with train operators, our investment will mean a more reliable, climate resilient railway; a better customer experience; and greener, more sustainable travel that links cities, towns, urban and rural communities with each other and with the wider UK.

But it's our people who make this progress possible. At Network Rail Scotland, you'll find an inclusive, supportive and flexible working culture where your ideas are valued, your growth is encouraged, and your impact is real. Join us.

This is your railway - and it's moving forward. For more information about Network Rail .

About the role

The Engineering & Asset Management function of Scotland's Railway plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, reliable, and high-performing railway for the people and communities we serve. Through effective asset stewardship, technical excellence, and collaborative working, we help ensure that Scotland's railway infrastructure continues to operate safely, sustainably, and efficiently.

We are seeking a motivated and proactive Senior Engineer [Asbestos] to join our Assurance team within the Engineering & Asset Management function. As the Senior Engineer [Asbestos], you act as the single point of contact for asbestos management across Scotland's operational assets. Acting on behalf of the Director of Engineering & Asset Management (DEAM) (the asbestos Dutyholder for Scotland's operational assets), you will be responsible for co-ordinating asbestos management activities, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and industry best practice.

You will provide expert technical advice, guidance, and assurance on asbestos-related matters, supporting informed decision-making and effective risk management across the organisation. Working closely with asset managers in the Engineering & Asset Management function, you will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across Scotland's Railway to drive continuous improvement, promote asbestos awareness, and strengthen the region's approach to safe and effective asset management.

This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference, influencing strategic decisions and helping to shape the future of asbestos management across one of the UK's most important transport networks.
