We are seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Buildings team in either Glasgow or Edinburgh. We are looking for someone with expertise in civil engineering design to help deliver multi‑disciplinary projects, from feasibility studies, concept design, and planning submissions through to warrant, tender and construction details.

Our projects are varied and frequently require collaboration with multiple discipline experts across the Stantec business and wider industry.

The successful candidate will focus on civil engineering design solutions to support project delivery through preparing reports, drawings and undertaking the design of earthworks, internal site roads, pavements and drainage design.

You will work with clients and contractors to influence infrastructure and development schemes and will be responsible for delivering projects with the opportunity to develop and support more junior team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and coordinate civil engineering infrastructure including earthworks, internal site roads, pavement and drainage as well as the preparation of the associated specifications.
  • Ensuring high quality delivery in design through QA checks.
  • Liaising with local authorities and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.
  • Performing earthworks volume assessments and writing technical reports (drainage strategies, technical notes, condition surveys, engineering strategies).
  • Preparing technical submission packages e.g. highways S278/38/50 & sewers S104/185, SAB.
  • Liaising with clients, third‑party bodies and multi‑disciplinary teams and disciplines on all relevant aspects of projects.
  • Participate in and contribute to engineering innovation.
  • Perform the “Designer” role under CDM regulations, identifying and eliminating hazards while communicating residual risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, design teams, and approving authorities to share information, confirm technical points, and resolve design‑related matters.
  • Conducting site visits when required, both to inform design and during construction.
How You’ll Contribute
  • Strategic development of a project's layout, levels, drainage, highways, etc.
  • Contributing to 3D proposed levels and earthworks models and assisting with 2D drawing production.
  • Identifying, coordinating, and strategizing resolutions for below‑ground utilities and obstruction constraints.
  • Cost control contribution through awareness of project budgets/value, value engineering, and reducing task time.
  • Participating in both project meetings as well as meetings with approving bodies.
  • Contribute to financial performance through effective resource planning and financial process participation.
  • Monitoring and resolving incoming site queries, design team queries, and requests.
About You

You will be a degree qualified Civil Engineer, with a minimum of 3 years post‑graduate experience and working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the ICE. You will have experience delivering commercially successful projects with a strong ability to collaborate with the wider project delivery team.
