Allstaff Manufacturing Division are delighted to bring to the market the role of Senior Curtain Walling Designer – Proprietary Systems, based in Glasgow, G14. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a salary dependent on experience (DOE). Our client is an established specialist in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of aluminium, timber and composite windows, doors and curtain walling systems.
Working on residential and commercial construction projects across the UK, the business is continuing to grow and is looking for an experienced designer to join its Glasgow team.
This is a hands‑on technical design role where you will take responsibility for developing practical, accurate and buildable curtain walling solutions using established proprietary aluminium systems. You will work closely with architects, contractors, suppliers and third‑party engineers to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture and installation. The role is based on‑site in Glasgow, G14, working Monday to Friday, either 8.00am–4.00pm or 9.00am–5.00pm, totalling 37.5 hours per week.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Designing aluminium curtain walling systems for residential and commercial projects.
- Reviewing architectural drawings and specifications to select appropriate proprietary systems.
- Producing detailed AutoCAD drawings, including elevations, sections, construction details and installation drawings.
- Selecting suitable profiles, mullions, transoms, brackets and associated components.
- Specifying glazing solutions to meet safety, thermal, acoustic and solar control requirements.
- Interpreting wind loading information, structural calculations and technical performance requirements.
- Working with external engineers, architects and contractors to coordinate designs and resolve technical queries.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, industry standards and CWCT guidance.
- Managing drawing revisions, technical submissions and project deadlines.
- Supporting manufacturing, procurement and installation teams throughout the project.
- Minimum five years’ experience in curtain walling design or a closely related façade design role.
- Proven experience designing proprietary aluminium curtain walling systems.
- Strong AutoCAD skills, ideally including AutoCAD LT.
- Knowledge of established curtain walling manufacturers such as Schüco, Reynaers, Kawneer, Aluprof or Technal.
- Good understanding of glazing specifications, curtain walling components and installation requirements.
- Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant curtain walling standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, technical specifications and third‑party engineering calculations.
- Understanding of weather sealing, drainage, movement allowances and building interfaces.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical design projects rather than solely producing drawings from others’ instructions.
- Experience with commercial or high‑rise residential projects, Revit, BIM coordination, manufacturing drawings or fabrication details would be advantageous.
- No specific formal qualifications are required.
- A minimum of five years’ relevant industry experience is essential.
- Practical knowledge of proprietary curtain walling systems and technical design is more important than formal educational qualifications.
- Salary dependent on experience (DOE).
- Permanent, full‑time employment.
- Monday to Friday working hours, 37.5 hours per week.
- 32 days’ annual leave including bank holidays, increasing to 34 days with service.
- Optional private healthcare.
- Discounted gym memberships.
- Death in Service benefit.
- Free on‑street parking.
- Opportunity to work on varied residential and commercial construction projects.
- Responsibility for curtain walling design packages from initial development through to delivery.
- Collaborative working environment with access to specialist engineering support.
