Summary of Role

To provide timely, accurate and responsive client service to the firm through performance of daily banking and payment activities, assuring the sound and efficient financial running of the firm and reduced risk of loss.

This is a 12 Month Fixed-Term Maternity cover contract.

Key Tasks

  • Undertake daily banking, dealing with all ingoing and outgoing funds and carrying out bank account reconciliations as required.
  • Administer and control purchase ledger and credit cards to ensure accounts are settled in line with established procedures.
  • Handle enquiries from internal (lawyers) and external (banks, suppliers, etc.) contacts to bring to resolution.
  • Ensure bank and invoice postings are entered accurately, and with sufficient information, into the legal accounting system.
  • Manage supplier payments, ensuring compliance with internal controls policies and authorisations matrix.
  • Undertake set-up and lifecycle management of direct debits and authorise payments using internet banking as required.
  • Enter journals and transfer into the legal accounting system.
  • Process interest payments as required by senior team member.
  • Ensure compliance to internal control procedures and Law Society of Scotland rules.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The post requires someone used to dealing with accounts payable and banking and reconciliations duties.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to manage work to strict deadlines is essential.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach within the team, taking ownership of tasks, anticipating issues and supporting colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the finance function.

  • You have excellent communication skills, you are articulate, you communicate clearly, concisely and without any jargon.
  • You enjoy working within a team and autonomously on your own initiative.
  • You are personable and good at building and developing client relationships.
  • You are confident and you have a strong belief in yourself and your own ability.
  • You are committed to providing a good client experience and willing to put in extra time and effort when required
