Overview
Purpose of the role: to support the Risk Function in safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.
Responsibilities- Develop the strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
- Manage the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, and oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage relationship with risk stakeholders and maintain the quality of external third-party services.
- Adhere to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintain a robust control environment.
- Lead and supervise a team, guiding and supporting professional development, allocating work requirements and coordinating team resources.
- If in a leadership role, demonstrate a clear set of leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver consistently high standards (the four LEAD behaviours: Listen, Energise, Align, Develop).
- For individual contributors, develop technical expertise in the work area and act as an advisor where appropriate.
- Deliver end results of a team’s operational processing and activities; escalate breaches of policies or procedures appropriately.
- Embed new policies and procedures adopted due to risk mitigation; advise and influence decision-making within the area of expertise.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work or contributions.
- Deliver work in line with relevant rules, regulations, and codes of conduct; understand how the sub-function integrates with the wider function and with the organisation's products, services and processes.
- Make evaluative judgments based on analysis of factual information with attention to detail; resolve problems by applying acquired technical experience and precedents.
- Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex or sensitive information; act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function and build an external network.
This role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Qualifications and Experience- Risk and controls experience or exposure.
- Experience managing tasks across wider teams.
- Experience assessing productivity across a long-term project.
- Strong in-depth technical knowledge within the relevant area of expertise; ability to apply principles and concepts effectively.
- Ability to lead or contribute as part of a team, with the capability to develop technical expertise and act as an advisor where appropriate.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders, influence decision-making, and drive risk-informed governance across functions.
