Job DescriptionThis is an exciting opportunity to join Abbeyfield Wessex Society as a key member of the central office team. Supporting the Director of Finance and Business Support, you’ll take ownership of key financial processes - from preparing management accounts and assisting with month-end reporting, to supporting payroll, procurement, and tenancy administration.
This is a hands-on, varied role that offers real scope to develop your management reporting skills while working closely with house managers to ensure budgets, systems, and processes run efficiently. If you’re detail-oriented, confident with accounting systems, and enjoy rolling up your sleeves in a collaborative environment, this opportunity offers the perfect blend of responsibility, autonomy, and professional growth within a supportive and purpose-led team.
The role is ideally based onsite across five days per week. However, we understand the value of flexibility and are open to discussing hybrid or flexible working arrangements to support a positive work–life balance, subject to operational requirements.
Salary – 30 hours week £28k (£35k FTE). Holiday 22 & bank holiday pro-rata.
Initially one year fixed term contract.
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts and variance analysis
- Liasing with the house mangers on house budgets, actuals and associated queries
- Responsible for the finance and administration related to tenancies
- Support month end and year end processes
- Support payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Supporting key systems administration
- Procurement project support (i.e. supporting negotiations with suppliers and resolving issues)
- Providing support and training to house managers on business support systems (Finance and HR processes)
- Provide holiday cover for team members as required
- Prepare any required reports
- Deputise for Finance Director during periods of absence
- Provide holiday cover for team members as required
- Ensure that staff files comply with statutory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of the residents.
- Attend training courses as required.
- Any other duties which may be required.
- Own vehicle to travel to other Abbeyfield Wessex sites when required.
- Be able to demonstrate a flexible approach in the delivery of work. The post holder may be required to perform duties not specifically identified in the Job description, but which are commensurate with the general responsibilities of the post.
- Finance/bookkeeping experience and enjoy hands-on financial work
- Confidence using accounting systems (Xero experience ideal but not essential)
- Excellent attention to details and a reliable, organised approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, “roll your sleeves up” attitude
- Interest in developing management reporting skills
- Suitable for someone who is highly organised, flexible, and able to take responsibility for tasks and who will enjoy the challenge of working within a small but busy office. Ability to work alone or as part of a team essential.
