Operations Accountant Full details of the job.|  |  || --- | --- ||  |  ||  |  || --- | --- ||  | Operations Accountant ||  | Glasgow ||  | This role supports the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager in monitoring and controlling operational-related expenditure against budgets and forecasts, the airline's financial performance by monitoring, analysing, and reporting on operational costs.

This includes flight operations, ground handling, fuel, crew expenses, and other direct operating costs. The role ensures that financial data related to operational activities is accurate, timely, and supports strategic decision-making. This role is pivotal in executing month-end processes around P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations. The Operations Accountant will lead and develop the Operations Finance Analyst, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Additionally, the Operations Accountant will collaborate closely with the Operations Finance Business Partner, providing support on ad-hoc projects and ensuring that upcoming Operations initiatives are accurately reflected in the financial statements; ensuring seamless integration of operational activities into financial planning and analysis. ||  | Financial Control  
• Ensure Company Finance policies, procedures and forms are complied with and adhered to consistently throughout the company.  
• Identify and resolve areas of financial weakness in a timely manner.  
• Continually review, maintain and improve ledger postings against budget, forecast, prior year and trends.  
• Assist with providing commercial analysis used for decision making by management.  
• Assist with developing targets and benchmarking processes to challenge the business stakeholders.  
• Support the FP&A Manager in the development, maintenance and operation of the Governance structure within the FP&A team.  
• Drive process improvements to realise efficiencies within the FP&A team allowing for accurate and timely reporting of financial information.
Monitoring Financial Performance  
• Analyse month-end direct operating costs and operational fixed costs against budget, forecast, and trends, providing variance analysis at nominal and route level.  
• Ownership of monthly balance sheet reconciliations relating to Operations, preparing recs, reviewing those of the Analyst and fully investigating any anomalies.  
• Assist with month end preparation of risks and opportunities schedule.  
• Escalation point for issues with suppliers, disputed invoices and outstanding credit notes.  
• Regular communication and support with Operations Business Partner in the preparation of departmental KPI’s, volumes and non-financial information. Notification of any budget risk, opportunities and amendments included in rolling forecasts for comms to business.

• Assist in creating departmental budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads and budget holders.  
• Liaise with contract owners and suppliers regarding rates and pricing.  
• Support investment appraisals and business cases.  
• Prepare fixed cost information and analysis for tenders and contract pricing.
Leadership and Development  
• Supervise and mentor the Operations Finance Analyst, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
