Aboutthe Role
Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Accounting, this AVP will be key in establishing and operating Opus' Middle Office capability. The role will initially focus on providing independent oversight of OTC derivatives operations, including confirmation management, trade reconciliations, exception investigation, and trade lifecycle monitoring. The successful candidate will help build operational processes and controls while supporting the delivery of high-quality service to clients.
As the Middle Office function evolves, the role will contribute to the expansion of services across trade lifecycle management, collateral oversight, corporate actions, pricing oversight, and other investment operations activities. In addition to Middle Office responsibilities, the role will provide support across Portfolio Accounting activities, helping to strengthen controls, manage exceptions, and support operational delivery across the wider team.
Key Responsibilities- Review and validate OTC derivative confirmations received from counter parties.
- Perform independent reconciliations through platforms such as Markit Wire, Trade Serv, and other industry utilities.
- Investigate, document, and resolve reconciliation breaks, trade discrepancies, and operational exceptions.
- Liaise with counter parties, clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders to support timely resolution of issues.
- Monitor trade lifecycle events and maintain appropriate control evidence, audit trails, and exception reporting.
- Play a key role in establishing Opus' Middle Office capability, including helping to design processes, implement controls, document procedures, and develop operating models.
- Contribute to building a scalable Middle Office service offering that can support additional clients and services over time.
- Assist with client onboarding, service transitions, and the delivery of new Middle Office services as the function evolves.
- Support Portfolio Accounting activities including reconciliations, exception management, operational reviews, and other investment operations tasks as required.
- You have a honours degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as accounting, finance, business.
- You have gained at least 5+ years’ progressive experience in a financial services operation team.
- You are known for your superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- You have a sense of urgency to prioritize and execute concurrent client demands and internal stakeholder requests.
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance, including service delivery, productivity, quality and scalability.
- You bring a strong sense of ownership and accountability of work output in everything you do.
- Experience in or with the asset management industry is an asset that sets you apart.
