Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you a Tax Manager who actually enjoys helping business owners?

Preparing a tax return is one thing. Genuinely helping a business owner plan for the future, make better decisions, save tax and achieve their goals is something else.

At russell + russell, we do things a little differently – in a good way. We work closely with business owners to help them:

  • Grow their businesses
  • Keep more of what they earn
  • Achieve personal goals
  • Enjoy the rewards of their hard work
  • Plan properly for their future and retirement

And we’re looking for an ambitious, commercially-minded Tax Manager who wants to be part of that.

What are we looking for?

Someone who is:

  • Straight-talking, with integrity
  • Commercially minded and technically strong
  • Comfortable building genuine relationships with clients
  • Confident explaining complex tax issues without the jargon
  • Curious about a client’s wider situation – not just the question in the email
  • Someone who’d rather pick up the phone and have a conversation than fire off another email

You’ll need strong technical knowledge across areas including Corporation Tax, Income Tax, CGT, IHT, VAT, Employment Tax and Trusts, as well as experience with areas such as restructures, acquisitions/disposals, due diligence and HMRC enquiries.

You’ll be at the coal face, working directly with clients, leading advisory work and helping shape how we deliver our tax services.

The role also offers:

  • Salary in the region of £60,000 DOE
  • Hybrid working
  • Flexible working with core hours of 10am–3pm
  • 33 days annual leave
  • Private medical insurance
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • 20% commission on new client introductions
  • CIOT subscriptions paid
  • Quarterly Making Lives Better days for charity/community projects
  • 35-hour working week

We’re looking for a CIOT member with at least 5 years’ post-qualified experience in practice, excellent client-facing skills and someone who wants to make a genuine difference to clients.

Most importantly, you’ll need to fit with our values:

  • Play your part.
  • Be your best self.
  • Challenge clients.

If you’re commercially minded, client-focused and want to do more than just prepare tax returns, we’d love to hear from you.
