This post sits within the wider Ferries Directorate which is responsible for all of the Scottish Government’s subsidised ferry services (namely the Clyde & Hebrides Ferry Service (CHFS) and the Northern Isles Ferry Service (NIFS) and promotes connectivity and transport links to Scotland’s island communities.

This is a fast-moving area, and you may be asked to support work in various areas of the Ferries Directorate at short notice.

The role has responsibility for supporting the preparatory work for the renewal of the Northern Isles Ferry Services 4 contract for the delivery of lifeline ferry services to island and remote mainland communities across the Northern Isles. This is a fast-moving area, and you may be asked to support work in various areas of the Ferries Unit at short notice.

The role requires working closely with key ferry stakeholders to ensure that the future contract is developed to support the efficient and effective delivery of lifeline ferry services. The post provides an opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of vital lifeline ferry services supporting our island communities and is of significant local and national importance and Ministerial interests.

This post may involve line management responsibility.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the planning and organisation of project meetings, assist in the development and distribution of papers and provide secretariat support including minute-taking and following up actions with colleagues.

  • Develop and implement efficient processes and tracking tools to support the wider function, identifying and applying best practices for task delivery.

  • Be responsible for drafting and contributing to MiCase correspondence, PQs and FMQs, ministerial briefings/ submissions, and FOI requests.

  • Support ERDM audits.

  • NIFS4 programme.

  • maintain the Team Core Brief etc and ensure these are reviewed and updated on a routine basis.

  • Maintain and keep all trackers and reference documents up to date, this will involve using corporate systems and liaising closely with the project team.

  • Line Management of B1.
