Overview

Scottish Renewables is seeking a senior policy professional to lead its work on electricity market design and routes to market for renewable energy in the UK. This role sits at the centre of industry and government discussions on CfDs, Electricity Market Reform and investment frameworks. The postholder will act as Scottish Renewables' in‑house authority on how electricity markets work for renewable projects, shaping collective industry positions that directly influence government policy decisions.

Purpose

of the Role

To lead the development of Scottish Renewables' industry positions on electricity markets and economic policy, ensuring market frameworks and support mechanisms enable investment in renewable energy.

The role brings together industry evidence, expert economic analysis and government proposals to form clear, credible policy positions on how markets, pricing and support schemes should operate in practice.

Key Responsibilities

The focus is on policy interpretation, judgement and influence.

  • Lead Scottish Renewables' policy on Contracts for Difference (CfDs) across all technologies, including allocation rounds, consultations and member engagement
  • Lead industry positions on Electricity Market Reform, including Reformed National Pricing
  • Provide policy leadership on Cap & Floor and long‑duration electricity storage (LDES)
  • Develop consultation responses and industry‑wide positions with members
  • Engage regularly with developers, DESNZ officials, senior civil servants and ministers
  • Act as a senior spokesperson at meetings, round tables, events and conferences
  • Line manage the Economics & Markets Policy Officer
About You
  • Understanding of economics, markets and investment, and how all components interact.
  • Confident working with complex policy detail and large consultation documents
  • Able to form and defend clear policy positions
  • Excellent communicator, able to explain complex issues to non‑technical audiences
  • Comfortable engaging senior stakeholders across industry and government

Backgrounds of interest include energy or infrastructure policy, economics or economic policy, consultancy, regulatory bodies or industry roles involving CfDs or commercial strategy.

You will join a supportive, inclusive and collaborative team, working on a hybrid basis (max 2 days from home) from the Glasgow office. Occasional overnight stays and weekend travel/event attendance will be required.
