Position Details

We are offering an excellent opportunity to join our expanding Building Standards & Public Safety team as a Building Standards Surveyor on a permanent basis. As part of Building Standards & Public Safety of Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability and reporting to a Team Manager, you will be responsible for providing professional support and contribute to the successful delivery of Council and service priorities.

Duties

/ What You Will Do

This is a developmental role and is an ideal next step in your career where you will be given training and support to help achieve full membership of a relevant professional institute and progress to be being a qualified Senior Building Standards Surveyor.

  • Provide advice to enable and participate in the day-to-day tasks and decisions of the Building Standards and Public Safety function in a proficient and effective manner in line with relevant legislation while ensuring that the safety of the general public is held paramount at all times.
  • Participate in the training and development of staff where appropriate.
  • Provide key reports and represent the service with presentation of any necessary material and, where required, present and assist in the running of any seminars or exhibitions on relevant subjects.
  • Provide an emergency call-out service outside normal working hours in relation to dangerous buildings where required.
  • Support initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Building Standards & Public Safety service and contribute to the delivery of the Council's Strategic Plan

A Degree in an appropriate construction discipline OR HNC or HND in an appropriate construction discipline plus some experience of working in Building Standards OR at least 5 years' experience working in Building Standards are essential. At least Associate or Student level of membership of the RICS, CIOB, CABE, CIAT or equivalent professional construction related institute, and a full current driving licence are desirable.

Hours:

35 per week
Work Pattern:
Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
Annual Salary: £36,319.27 - £42,291.44 on an incremental scale Please note that this will increase by 3.5% on 1 st April 2026.

Hybrid working is available in this role.
