Proven experience in supporting normal birth, managing complex cases and promoting safe, compassionate care is essential. Main duties of the jobGloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its Midwifery Bank workforce and welcomes applications from talented, compassionate, and motivated Band 6 midwives. We are seeking individuals with solid clinical experience who can support the delivery of safe, equitable, and personalised maternal and neonatal care across our acute and community maternity services.
Bank working offers excellent flexibility, with shifts available across our maternity units and a range of clinical areas. You will receive a tailored period of orientation and have access to our comprehensive in‑house maternity training programme. You will work alongside skilled midwives and maternity support workers who are dedicated to providing outstanding care and an exceptional experience for women and families.
Applicants must hold current NMC registration as a midwife, working within the NMC Code of Professional Standards (2015) and be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing high‑quality antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care within our integrated maternity service.
Job responsibilities- Provide the full range of midwifery support and care, including antenatal, one‑to‑one care in labour and postnatal care, liaising with midwifery colleagues, obstetric consultants and other relevant members of the multidisciplinary team when appropriate.
- Be competent in the full range of midwifery skills, including venepuncture, cannulation, perineal suturing, intravenous drug administration, maternal and neonatal resuscitation, care of regional anaesthesia, and infant feeding support.
- Assess mothers and babies’ conditions and deliver appropriate care, within the multidisciplinary team.
- Carry out appropriate screening tests on women and babies, following appropriate discussion with the woman and informed consent.
- Diagnose/recognise specific problems and make decisions in the provision of care related to pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, informing the most suitably qualified person to assist in the provision of care in the event of any deviation from the norm.
- Deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.

Qualifications- Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- United Kingdom recognised degree in Midwifery Practice
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation
- Current experience and evidence of working as a Band 6 midwife or above
- Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
- Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment
