Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non‑clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million, with a wider reach of 2.2 million through regional and national services. Maternity and Gynaecology Services are provided across three large maternity units – Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Princess Royal Maternity and Royal Alexandra Hospital – along with inpatient gynaecology wards and outpatient services at Stobhill Hospital and the New Victoria Hospital.

This role is a new clinical safety post focusing on gynaecology services, working closely with clinical safety midwifery colleagues and the Women and Children’s Directorate.

Shift Pattern

Monday – Friday (flexible).

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for local and GGC‑wide gynaecology clinical safety meetings, including detailed briefing notes and timelines.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly gynaecology and maternity AEOG (Adverse Events Oversight Group) meetings, facilitating SAER (Serious Adverse Event Review) and LAER (Local Adverse Event Review) processes.
  • Assist in organising multi‑disciplinary review teams for SAER reviews and support the chair in coordinating report writing and timeline development.
  • Develop and maintain the Gynaecology outcomes dashboard and contribute to national and local reporting and audits, including cancer audits.
  • Provide insight and learning sessions for the gynaecology MDT on SAER outcomes and emerging themes from clinical risk reviews.
  • Collaborate with the lead nurse for gynaecology, practice development and medical colleagues to devise and deliver educational responses derived from risk reviews.
  • Ensure nursing and medical teams are aware of recommendations from briefing notes, SAERs and LAERs.
Qualifications
  • Registered nurse with a live NMC UK pin.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and a degree‑level education.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant area of women’s healthcare.
  • Proficient in IT and capable of writing accurate professional reports fluently.

Additional Information

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
