We have an opportunity for an Ophthalmic Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Nursing department. This is not a registered post, full training will be given to the role holder.
This is a full‑time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.
Duties Of This Role Include- Assist with the assessment and care of patients undergoing ophthalmic investigations, treatments, and procedures.
- Carry out ophthalmic observations such as vision testing, instillation of eye drops, intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, and pupil assessments.
- Support pre‑ and post‑operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery (e.g. cataract, glaucoma, retinal procedures).
- Assist in or perform diagnostic tests such as OCT scans, visual field tests, fundus photography, and fluorescein angiography (depending on training).
- Support consultants and clinicians in minor procedures and laser treatments by preparing clinical areas and equipment.
- Monitor patients during procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and clear documentation.
- Provide clear information and reassurance to patients and carers about ophthalmic conditions, procedures, and aftercare.
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
- Experience in outpatient, day surgery, or ophthalmic nursing.
- Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
- Good understanding of infection control, medication safety, and clinical documentation.
