The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Team Lead Post within the West Dunbartonshire Community Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Team. This post is 1.0 WTE but job share could be considered.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward thinking Speech and Language Therapy Team Leader who will work with the Manager and SLT Team to deliver excellent quality SLT services to children, families and colleagues within the West Dunbartonshire area.

The post holder will provide clinical and operational line management to the team of therapists and clinical support workers in alignment with person-centred care and Realistic Medicine principles. As a Team Lead, the post holder will provide support and guidance to staff and carry out roles such as TURAS reviews, Capacity Management Meetings, and Supervision.

A wide range of clinical experience is essential as the post holder will also be responsible for assessment, diagnosis and management of their own caseload, maintaining associated records, providing highly specialist speech and language therapy interventions to children up to 18 years old from admission to discharge. This is an excellent opportunity for an SLT currently working at Band 6 and above who can demonstrate a passion for leadership and developing others.

  • Location based in The Vale Centre for Health and Care
  • Fixed-term Contract (until November 2027)
  • Full-time position (37 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday
Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the team of Speech and Language Therapists and Clinical Support Workers within a designated locality, managing the case load allocation and management processes, and being fully cognisant of waiting list issues and challenges.
  • Provide day to day supervision of agreed staff within the locality team, dealing with issues as the first point of contact and referring management issues to the SLT Manager.
  • Responsible for day to day management of staff within the locality team. This will include staff management and development, KSF reviews, attendance management reviews, all aspects of recruitment and interview and first line disciplinary proceedings as delegated by the SLT Manager.
  • Liaise with other Teams Leads and others as required to ensure consistency of approach across NHS GG&C on SLT issues/service provision.
  • Ensure and support efficient and effective clinical practice, including record keeping, within the team.
  • Provide a range of activity statistical information as required by the SLT Manager.
  • Support the SLT Manager in ensuring that all staff undertake their duties and responsibilities within the scope and standards of practice as agreed by the SLT service, locally and nationally agreed policies and procedures, clinical guidelines and the Health & Care Professions Council guidance including the Code of Conduct.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

The post holder will require:

  • Appropriate Ordinary/Honours degree in Speech and Language Pathology or equivalent diploma.
  • Certificate to Practice as a Speech and Language Therapist as awarded by the RCSLT.
  • Registration with RCSLT and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) (as a condition of ongoing employment post holders are required to maintain continuous registration with these professional bodies and provide documentary evidence on an annual basis).
  • Post graduate certificate in relevant clinical area or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of wider service issues, connections and priorities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in partnership.
  • Experienced Speech & Language Therapist able to evidence a high level of responsibility within the service and previous experience of ASD assessment and Diagnosis.
