AHP Team Lead - Oncology Services

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services within the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The service is based across two hospital sites, with Oncology services based at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and Haemato‑Oncology services based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The role provides operational management and strategic leadership for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services within the Regional Services Directorate. The service comprises inpatient and outpatient services providing high quality person‑centred care to people undergoing cancer treatment. This dynamic service relies on strong leadership, forward planning and a flexible approach to ensure opportunities for service innovation are optimised.

There is a clinical element to this post with the post‑holder carrying a complex clinical caseload incorporating patient assessment, treatment and discharge from care, working within multi‑professional teams to ensure coordinated care for patients.

The post‑holder must be driven to improve services for people with a cancer diagnosis and lead the development of the team with a passionate and dynamic approach. Strong leadership skills and previous experience of leading audit and service development are essential. They must also provide line management and strategic direction to the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff working in the different strands of our service including the Teenage and Young Adult Service, the National Allogeneic Transplant Unit and the Interventional Cancer Pain Service.

• Develops the AHP team within the specialty in conjunction with colleagues throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in line with service and Directorate strategic direction, incorporating patient/public involvement.
• Develops, implements and monitors clinical policies, procedures, guidelines within the specialty and initiates change accordingly.
• Interprets professional, organisational and national guidelines, procedures and policies and ensures integration into practice within the service.
• Leads senior staff and provides managerial support and advice.
• Collaborates effectively with colleagues throughout NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde to ensure a standardised approach to patient care and service development.
• Demonstrates clinical leadership within team and with peers.
• Prepares and develops reports to advise Chief AHP/ Professional Leads with regard to developments within the specialty.
• Works with relevant professional leads to ensure seamless support for staff of all disciplines within the AHP Team

• A minimum of 5 years post‑graduate experience is required for this post. You must have a Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration.
• HCPC Registered Professional.
• BSc qualification or equivalent in either Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy.
• Significant post‑graduate experience with relevant senior experience in speciality.
• Completed or working towards management and/or leadership training.
• A working knowledge of NHS and Professional Standards, Policies, Procedures and Clinical Guidelines.
• Experience of maintaining high standards of clinical care.
• A wide range of advanced professional and clinical knowledge and experience.
• Familiar with clinical audit/research and evaluation methods.
• Basic computer, word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
