PERSONAL ASSISTANT WANTED FOR BRODIE – AGE 7 | GLASGOW WEST
We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable PA for our 7-year-old son, Brodie.
We're not just looking for someone to fill some hours. We'd really love to find someone who will get to know Brodie, build his trust and genuinely enjoy spending time with him.
A little about Brodie…
Brodie is a very happy, energetic little boy. He absolutely loves being outdoors, running around and exploring. He also loves bouncing, spinning, watching Peppa Pig on repeat and, probably one of his favourite things, going for drives in the car!
Brodie is profoundly autistic and non-verbal. He communicates using communication devices and is learning PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display). We're looking for someone willing to learn how he communicates and, with time, get to know Brodie's own sounds, behaviours and body language.
Brodie has no sense of danger and always requires close supervision, particularly when outdoors and in the community.
He uses both a wheelchair and a Hobbledehoo safety harness so he can safely walk and explore. His PA needs to be comfortable using both and supporting Brodie safely when out and about.
Personal care is required, including changing nappies, while always respecting Brodie's dignity.
Brodie also experiences absence seizures from time to time. Full guidance and support will be provided.
And one important thing to know… Brodie can be VERY loud! His noises are part of how he communicates and regulates himself, so we're looking for someone who won't be fazed by this.
Who would suit Brodie?- Very patient, calm, caring and reliable
- Experienced with or knowledgeable about autism and additional support needs
- Comfortable supporting a non-verbal child and willing to learn how Brodie communicates
- Happy to provide personal care
- Not sensitive to loud or repetitive noises
- Active, attentive and able to support Brodie safely in the community
- Happy to let Brodie do things at his own pace and learn what works for him
Experience with PODD or AAC would be amazing, but a genuine willingness to learn is just as important to us.
Most of all, we want someone who will see beyond Brodie's additional needs and get to know the funny, energetic and unique little boy that he is.
The Practical Bits- Hourly rate: £14.45 per hour
- Driving licence preferred but not essential
There will be plenty of running, bouncing, Peppa Pig, car journeys and fun adventures along the way!
You'll help Brodie get out and about, enjoy new experiences, build his communication and independence, and most importantly stay safe while being himself.
