The role:We are seeking an experienced Specialist Physiotherapist to provide highly specialised clinical care within a designated specialty. The postholder will manage a complex caseload, undertaking advanced patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for patients with complex and multiple clinical presentations. The role also includes leading and supporting a team of physiotherapists, assistants and students, acting as a specialist clinical resource, and contributing to service development, clinical governance, audit, education and quality improvement initiatives.

The postholder will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their clinical practice and patient care. They will assess, analyse and interpret complex clinical information to formulate accurate diagnoses and develop, implement and evaluate specialised physiotherapy treatment programmes. The role involves managing a complex caseload, providing specialist advice to colleagues and multidisciplinary teams, maintaining high-quality patient records, and ensuring care is delivered in accordance with recognised professional standards and clinical guidelines.
In addition, the postholder will lead the day-to-day delivery of physiotherapy services within the Medical Unit, supervise and develop staff and students, contribute to service planning and improvement, participate in multidisciplinary working, lead clinical audit and governance activities, deliver education and training programmes, support staff development, and ensure the safe management and use of physiotherapy equipment and relevant IT systems.
training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
- Current HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist.
- Significant postgraduate experience within a relevant specialist clinical area.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
- Advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment skills.
- Experience of managing patients with complex and multiple pathologies.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of national clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice.
- Experience of supervising, mentoring and developing junior staff and students.
- Ability to deliver education, training and in-service development programmes.
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working and effective communication practices.
- Experience of service development and implementation of best practice standards.
- Competent user of relevant IT systems and software packages.
- Knowledge of safe use, maintenance and monitoring of physiotherapy equipment.
- Ability to work independently, including participation in emergency respiratory on-call services.
