The role:

The postholder will provide specialist pharmaceutical services to ensure the safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in line with current legislation, professional standards, and local and national policies. Working within Pharmacy Services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the role involves delivering specialised clinical pharmacy services to an agreed patient group or clinical speciality, supporting multidisciplinary teams, undertaking prescribing and medicines management activities, and contributing to service improvement, research, audit, education and training.

The postholder will also supervise and support the development of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainees, students and other healthcare professionals while helping to ensure patients receive the highest standard of pharmaceutical care throughout their healthcare journey.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Permanent Role
  • Leverndale Hospital
  • 36 Hours (Monday, Thursday & Friday 0830 - 1600, Tuesday & Wednesday 0830 - 1630, plus On-Call Commitment)
Key responsibilities:

The postholder will provide specialist pharmaceutical services to ensure the safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in line with current legislation, professional standards, and local and national policies. Working within Pharmacy Services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the role involves delivering specialised clinical pharmacy services to an agreed patient group or clinical speciality, supporting multidisciplinary teams, undertaking prescribing and medicines management activities, and contributing to service improvement, research, audit, education and training.

The postholder will also supervise and support the development of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainees, students and other healthcare professionals while helping to ensure patients receive the highest standard of pharmaceutical care throughout their healthcare journey.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Master's degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent recognised pharmacy qualification.
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Postgraduate Diploma, MSc or equivalent postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification, or working towards completion.
  • Independent Prescriber qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience within a clinical setting.
  • Specialist knowledge of pharmaceutical care, medicines optimisation and evidence-based prescribing.
  • Knowledge of current NHS policies, clinical governance frameworks and relevant medicines legislation.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working and delivering patient-centred pharmaceutical care.
  • Experience of supervising, training and mentoring pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainees and students.
  • Understanding of medication safety, risk management, audit and service improvement methodologies.
  • Experience of clinical audit, research and/or participation in clinical trials.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex clinical information and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and maintaining professional competence.
  • Ability to deliver education and training sessions to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
