Occupational Therapist - Specialist Children's Services

We are looking for a dedicated Occupational Therapist to manage a designated clinical caseload within the National Children’s Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (CAMHS). You will provide a high quality occupational therapy service, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment programmes to support children and young people in achieving their maximum potential. Working as an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to coordinated patient care, service development, clinical audit, and quality improvement initiatives while maintaining professional and clinical standards.

As an autonomous Occupational Therapist, you will be professionally accountable for the assessment, treatment, management and discharge planning of a defined caseload within a specialist inpatient mental health setting. You will use advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess patients' functional abilities, develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes, and evaluate outcomes to ensure high quality patient care. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary and multi-agency colleagues to ensure coordinated care and effective communication, while maintaining accurate clinical records and statistical information.

You will contribute to clinical audit, service improvement and governance activities, support the supervision and development of Healthcare Support Workers and Occupational Therapy students, and incorporate learning from continuous professional development into practice. The role also involves promoting occupational therapy awareness across teams, adhering to relevant legislation and professional standards, and supporting safe, effective and person-centred care delivery.

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards and national guidance relating to health and social care.
• Understanding of child protection procedures and clinical governance requirements.
• Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment tools and intervention approaches relevant to mental health services.
• Understanding of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working practices.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a professional portfolio.
• Commitment to participating in mandatory and statutory training programmes.
• Knowledge of Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) standards, codes of ethics and professional conduct.
• Experience of clinical audit, quality improvement or service evaluation activities.
• Ability to supervise, support and develop students and support staff.
