Pharmacy Technician - Alcohol & Drug Recovery Services

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join an established pharmacy team as a Pharmacy Technician within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service (ADRS).

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde ADRS manages care for individuals with problem alcohol and drug use across the largest health board in Scotland, including areas with high levels of deprivation and substance-related harm. The service focuses on delivering accessible, high‑quality, recovery‑orientated care to address public health needs and reduce health inequalities.

This is a new role within the Central Pharmacy Team ADRS, supporting pharmaceutical services across community teams and services, including inpatient services, the Enhanced Drug Treatment Service, the Glasgow Drug Checking Service, and community pharmacy.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

• Requires flexibility to work across multiple service areas, including community and inpatient settings
• Participation in a 7-day flexible rota is required
• Full-time and part-time post available
• The role includes:

  • Emergency cover when necessary

Support the implementation, delivery and evaluation of pharmaceutical services within ADRS. Optimise pharmaceutical care to maximise patient benefit and minimise risks associated with medicines.

Work closely with the GGC ADRS Lead Pharmacist to support a wide range of staffing groups, treatment and care services, community pharmacies, primary care, statutory and voluntary agencies, Alcohol and Drug Partnerships and Health and Social Care Partnerships. Contribute to substance use care across the organisation. Work autonomously and make decisions within level of competency while demonstrating strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

• Be a UK-registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Hold the following qualifications:
  • National Certificate (NC) in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
  • SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services
  • HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management
  • Accredited Accuracy Checking qualification (e.g. Buttercups or NPA, 2019 or before)

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• Pharmaceutical services

• Aseptic processes
• Drug law and reform
• Harm reduction interventions
• Alcohol and drug treatment services
• Recovery-oriented systems of care
