Senior Pharmacist, Medicines Effectiveness B8A

We are seeking a driven, adaptable and progressive pharmacist to take on the role of Senior Pharmacist, Medicines Effectiveness in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is a rare and exciting opportunity within our dynamic Medicines Support Service (MSS) and is available as a permanent 8a position (0.8 WTE).

The primary purpose of this role is to lead collaborative work to support safe, effective and efficient use of medicines within NHSGGC, aligned to the objectives of the Deputy Director of Pharmacy for Acute Services, Heads of Finance, Acute Services Prescribing Management Group and Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee. This involves working with senior pharmacists, medical & nursing staff and other senior colleagues within the multidisciplinary team as well as Finance to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of our medicines resource.

Specifically, the post holder will provide clinical leadership to:

• Support the delivery of the Medicines Sustainability and Value program across NHS GGC Acute to maximise performance of our medicines resource;
• Lead on specific project work to improve medicines cost awareness
• Work with clinical experts to deliver medicines planning work (e.g. the managed entry of new medicines and other horizon scanning activities).
• Author guidance on safe and effective prescribing in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
• Support education and training delivery across MSS.

This post also includes a patient-facing clinical pharmacy commitment.

No prior specific experience is required for this post as the successful candidate will be supported in their development in this area.

Excellent clinical knowledge, enthusiasm for working with complex data, confident communication and negotiating skills, resilience and autonomous working skills are key attributes as well as being a dedicated team player. Applicants from all backgrounds in pharmacy will be considered.

The team is based at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Scotland’s biggest city with easy access to the rest of the West of Scotland and the Central belt via road and public transport. There is flexibility in terms of work location for the post holder.
