Supporting a university student to live independently in Glasgow
Could you make a real difference to someone’s everyday life?
Hi, I’m Anna. I’m 18 and have just started university in Glasgow. I’m looking for one more female Personal Assistant to join my small, friendly support team.
I enjoy music, fashion, nail art, spending time at home and getting out and about when I choose. I like a calm, relaxed environment, a good chat and having my own space.
I have a physical disability and need support with many aspects of everyday life, including personal care, getting up and ready in the morning, meal preparation, daily routines and getting ready for bed.
I make my own decisions and direct my own support. I’m looking for someone who will work alongside me, respect my choices and help me live the life I choose.
You’ll become part of a small team where getting to know me and working well together is really important.
The roleLocation: Glasgow, with some support in Linlithgow and elsewhere as required
Pay: £14.81 per hour
Working pattern: 24–48 hour live-in blocks
During university term time, most of the support will be in Glasgow. The role involves staying in my adapted accommodation and providing support throughout the shift.
The most important parts of the role are supporting me with my morning and bedtime routines, personal care and everyday life. There will also be times when I am at university, meeting friends, going out, travelling or simply enjoying time at home.
There may also be opportunities to take on additional shifts to cover holidays, sickness or changes in my plans, so some flexibility is important.
About youI’m looking for someone who is:
- Kind, reliable and trustworthy
- Calm, patient and respectful
- Friendly and easy to get along with
- Comfortable working one-to-one and becoming part of a small team
- Able to respect my independence and give me my own space
- Comfortable with personal care and physical support
- Happy to learn how I like things done
- Able to use their initiative and adapt when plans change
Previous care or support experience is helpful but not essential
. What matters most is the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
A full UK driving licence is essential
. You must also be comfortable driving a larger/adapted vehicle, or be willing to learn.
Depending on what I am doing, your support may include:
- Morning and bedtime routines
- Personal care
- Dressing, grooming and everyday routines
- Meal preparation
- Supporting mobility, transfers and use of equipment
- Supporting me at university and with university life
- Supporting social, leisure and everyday activities
- Supporting me when travelling or away from home
- Light household tasks
- Person-led medication support
Full training and an induction will be provided, including training specific to my equipment and the way I need to be supported.
- This is usually a live-in role
, working mainly in 24–48 hour blocks. - Support may sometimes be provided away from Glasgow, including in Linlithgow, on holidays or in other locations.
- Travel costs incurred as part of providing support in other locations are covered.
- PVG membership is required.
- Paid annual leave and pension are included.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. We cannot sponsor visas.
- This is a directly employed PA role, not self-employed work.
Being a Personal Assistant is about supporting someone to have choice and control over their own life.
This isn’t about taking over or doing everything for me. It’s about working alongside me, helping where I need support and enabling me to do the things I want to do.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and we may interview before the Final date to receive applications.
