The role:We are seeking a motivated Band 4 Assistant Practitioner with a specialist interest in older adult assessment and rehabilitation to join the Allied Health Professional (AHP) team within the Older People’s Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI). The successful candidate will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Healthcare Support Workers, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to older adults with complex health needs.

Key responsibilities:The Assistant Practitioner will support the delivery of early assessment, rehabilitation, treatment and discharge planning for older adults with a range of co-morbidities. Working within delegated competencies and under the guidance of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, the post holder will independently manage a delegated caseload from assessment through to discharge, contributing to hospital flow and timely patient discharges. The role involves delivering clinical interventions, monitoring patient progress, making onward referrals to community services, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
The post holder will also undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks, support service development initiatives, and maintain high standards of patient care while working within agreed competency frameworks.
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Support Worker within Physiotherapy and/or Occupational Therapy services.
- HNC, SVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in Health & Social Care, Clinical Support, or Occupational Therapy Support
. - SVQ Level 2/3 training or willingness to undertake relevant training and competency development.
- Experience supporting rehabilitation and assessment of older adults.
- Understanding of the roles of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists within acute services.
- Ability to work independently within delegated treatment plans and agreed competencies.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Accurate observation, assessment and reporting skills.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to deliver delegated interventions safely and effectively.
- Understanding of professional conduct, confidentiality and person-centred care.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures, risk assessment and risk management.
